IN: Independent Living (overview)
Independent Living Specialists work with people to set and achieve goals, such as:
- finding accessible and affordable housing
- moving from a nursing home back to the community
Information and Referral
Independence Now serves as a guide through the maze of services by connecting people with community resources.
Independent Living Skills Training
Group workshops are offered on issues, such as employment and housing.
Monthly Group Activities
Outreach to people in nursing facilities through “happy hours” with shared music, games and crafts. Housing Information Sessions to jump start people in their search for affordable housing. Support Group where people with disabilities can share experiences and learn from each other.
Advocacy
Independence Now staff support people to take action to secure their rights.
Independence Now advocates with state and local officials to create:
- more affordable and accessible housing
- improved Personal Assistance Services
Our Transportation Action Group
comprised of people with disabilities, works to create better transportation services in the two counties.
Home Modifications
This project enables people to continue living independently by making accessibility modifications to their homes.
